With all of the different forms of media available online now, such as YouTube videos, TikToks, Instagram reels & so on, you might be wondering, do people still read blogs?
And are blogs still relevant at all? Or has blogging died a death?
So to help answer those questions & clear up any doubts, we’ve put this page together to explain why blogging is actually more alive (and more profitable) than ever before.
And we’ll get straight into it, starting with the most pressing question first…
Do People Still Read Blogs?
The answer to that question, since you’re reading this blog post right now, is yes, people do still read blogs in 2024 & there are actually now more people reading blogs than ever before.
Now, I appreciate that initially, that may sound quite surprising, but take a look at how the number of internet users has increased over time below:
As you can see, there are now more users online than ever before.
So this means that even though there are many different types of media outlets & different forms of media, there are also many more content consumers.
And blog content will always have a place because there will always be instances where a consumer wishes to consume content but cannot play audio, watch a video, etc.
You see, what you have to remember is that written blog content does not necessarily compete with video or audio content. They all have their own target audiences.
And here at Commission Academy, myself & Simon have been creating blogs for over 10+ years and even to this day, they are absolutely thriving.
Every single day our blogs receive thousands of visitors from all around the world & through affiliate marketing, we’re able to generate income from them.
Plus, there are many other bloggers out there earning money from their blogs. In fact, we teach exactly how to do it in our free step-by-step course.
So, in short, yes, people do still read blogs & and people will continue to read blogs for many years to come, just as people prefer to still read books rather than watch movies.
Are Blogs Still Relevant?
Yes, blogs are still relevant. Although admittedly, the landscape of blogging has changed quite dramatically since it very first started.
You see, originally, blogs were launched as a way for people to simply keep an online diary.
People could create a blog & blog about anything they liked, whether it be what they had for dinner, what they did during the day, etc…
And to be honest, you still could do that if you wanted.
However, social media ended up taking over as the outlet for that type of content.
Instead of people posting to their blogs what they had for dinner, they started to take to the likes of Facebook to post it there instead.
And the reason for that is that on social media, people have an immediate audience (the people that they’re friends with or followed by).
Whereas on a blog, you don’t.
On a blog, you actually have to leverage marketing techniques in order to get visitors. You have to promote your content to be found.
And so this led to a shift in what people used blogs for.
Instead of using them as simple “diaries”, people started using them as tools to get visitors from search engines (like Google) so that they could promote things online & earn money.
You see when you publish content on a blog, search engines (like Google) automatically discover it & they list it within their results as an option for people to click on.
So if you published a product review of the latest lawnmower, then that post could show in the results if somebody happened to search for it.
And if the searcher happened to click on your page, you could earn commissions by adding an affiliate link to a store selling the lawnmower.
If they clicked it & made a purchase, you’d get paid a commission in return.
It’s a method known as affiliate marketing & it’s exactly what we teach in our free course here at Commission Academy.
So blogs ended up shifting to primarily being used for this particular use case & when people realized you could make money, it led to increased competition, which then led to an increase in the quality of content.
People wanted to create the best blog posts possible so that they could rank the highest in the search engines to get the most clicks & make the most money.
With that in mind, though, you might now be wondering if it would be a waste of time to start a blog in 2024, given that there’s been such an increase in competition.
So let’s take a look at that next.
Are Blogs A Waste Of Time?
Absolutely not. Blogs can make for a fantastic way to generate passive income online in combination with methods such as affiliate marketing.
You see, as mentioned earlier, when you publish content on a blog, search engines automatically discover it & list it within their results as an option for people to click on.
And blog content stays around for as long as you decide to keep your blog online.
So this means that for a one-time effort of creating blog content, you could have a stream of visitors arriving at your blog from search engines for many years to come.
And all that it takes to make money from those visitors is to leverage something such as affiliate marketing.
Through affiliate marketing, you can promote products or services to them & earn commissions if they happen to make any purchases via your affiliate links.
That’s the exact money-making method we teach in our free training course here at Commission Academy & it’s the exact strategy we use in our own businesses ourselves.
So blogs are certainly not a waste of time & this brings me to the next point.

Why Do People Claim That Blogging Is Dead?
Even though we’ve highlighted & proven that blogging is far from dead, we have no doubt that you’ll still hear other people claiming that it is.
So, why is this? Why do people claim that blogging is dead?
Well, there are 2 reasons why people claim blogging is dead & here they both are:
Reason #1 – Scammers Pushing Get-Rich-Quick Programs
The phrase “blogging is dead” is primarily used by scammers who are looking to suck victims into their latest & so-called greatest money-making schemes.
They will claim that “blogging is dead” and then go on to reveal some kind of new method, which, of course, requires you to hand over some of your cash to get started with.
Don’t listen to them! These people are just set out to profit off the back of their lies & lure you into systems that simply won’t deliver on their promises.
Reason #2 – People Tried Blogging & “Failed”
We see this one all too often. People who have started a blog in the past, published 1 blog post & then went on to claim that “blogging is dead” because they didn’t become a millionaire.
The reality is that blogging doesn’t work like that. If you want to make money blogging, you’ll need to give it at least 3 months.
The good news, however, is that the income potential from blogging is completely uncapped, meaning you could even find yourself becoming a millionaire.
Just not overnight! 😂
The Bottom Line
In summary of everything above, the answer is yes, people do still read blogs in 2024 & blogs are actually more popular now than ever before.
Sure, the mediums in which people access content are way more diverse, but the reality is that they do not compete with blogging.
Each medium, be it TikTok videos or Instagram reels, has its own place.
So if you’ve thought about starting a blog but been put off because you heard it was dead or a waste of time, we can assure you that it’s not.
Blogging can be an extremely lucrative career & there are many ways that bloggers make money.
In fact, as mentioned previously, blogging can even have the potential to make you a millionaire.
