These days, it almost seems like everybody has a YouTube channel & if you haven’t yet got your own, you may be feeling like you’re missing out.

So, with that in mind, should you start a YouTube channel?

Is Starting a YouTube Channel Worth It?

In short, my answer to this question is a resounding yes. As far as I’m concerned & from my own experiences, starting a YouTube channel is 100% worth it.

I say that because whilst it can be frustrating when you’re just first starting out, being a YouTuber actually becomes really fun.

But, of course, there’s more to it than just fun…

With a YouTube channel, you have the power to build a highly engaged online audience & with the right approach, it doesn’t take a huge amount of work.

Then, when you have an audience, you can begin making money (and lots of it!).

As you’ll soon see a little further down in this blog post, being a YouTuber can prove to be extremely lucrative & many folks do it as their full-time job.

But what about in 2024? Is it still worth starting a YouTube channel in 2024?

Absolutely! Over the years, YouTube has become more & more popular & the audience has grown rapidly. Even in 2024, it’s still well worth starting a YouTube channel.

In fact, just recently I started a brand new channel & within just 2 days I received over 50 new subscribers.

Is Being a YouTuber Hard?

Speaking from experience, I put off doing YouTube for many years because I believed it to be difficult.

First of all, I found getting in front of the camera difficult. It was something I hated doing & because I thought too much about it, I would always mess up my words.

Then, I found the editing process extremely laborious & time-consuming. I’d spend hours after recording a video tweaking it, trying to get it “perfect” ready to publish.

So I threw in the towel after just my first few videos & for years, it stayed that way.

But just a couple of years ago, I came to the realization that YouTube isn’t hard. I was only finding it difficult because I was making it difficult.

I was getting too caught up in what others were doing & assuming that my videos had to be as well produced as theirs for me to be successful.

But now, as a successful YouTuber, I can tell you that’s just nonsense.

I came full circle & just started recording simple “point and shoot” style videos on my webcam or phone. They’ve had the best engagement of all of my videos so far.

It turns out that people don’t really care too much about production quality.

So, as a YouTuber, your daily task list will be as follows:

• Find a topic to cover
• Point & shoot a quick video
• Publish
• Respond to comments (optional, but recommended)

For the most part, I literally don’t even edit my videos. The only time I’ll edit them is if they’re for something special… For example, if I was recording them to appear in the Commission Academy training.

So, all in all, from coming up with an idea to publishing the video, it probably takes me around 1 hour.

I mean, I don’t know about you – but I personally wouldn’t class that as being “hard”.

Do YouTube Channels Really Make Money?

Here’s the best bit about YouTube… YouTube channels really do make money & with the right training, it’s freaking easy to make money from YouTube.

And it’s also possible to start earning money pretty darn quickly on YouTube as well.

I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying you’ll find yourself becoming an affiliate marketing millionaire overnight but you can certainly start earning your first commissions within just a couple of weeks.

With other methods, like search engine optimization, that’s much harder to do.

In terms of how you can make money from YouTube, here are the most common methods:

• Advertisements
• Affiliate Links
• Donations
• Sponsors

So, let’s take a look at what sort of income you can actually generate with a YouTube channel.

How Much YouTube Pays Per 1,000 Views

The amount of money that you’ll be able to earn from each 1,000 views on your YouTube channel will primarily depend on your chosen niche.

For example, channels discussing finance & investments will generally have higher earnings per view than channels discussing nail care.

Alongside that, the amount you earn per view will depend on where the majority of your audience is based.

If your audience comprises of people living in wealthy countries, you’re going to be able to earn more per view than you would if they were living in poorer countries.

That’s because they’ve got more money to spend, so advertisers are willing to pay more to target them.

Anyway, here are some examples across different niches/locations to give you a better idea:

Example 1: Standard Vlogger in the U.S.

Context: A vlogger based in the United States creates lifestyle content.

• CPM (Cost Per Mille): Approximately $2 to $4.
• Estimated Earnings: For 1,000 views, the vlogger could earn between $2 and $4. This estimate assumes that all views are monetized, which is often not the case due to ad-blocking software and videos not meeting ad criteria.

Example 2: Tech Reviewer with a Global Audience

Context: A tech reviewer with a significant following worldwide but with a higher audience concentration in high-ad-rate countries like the U.S., UK, and Canada.

• CPM: Approximately $4 to $10, thanks to the niche nature of the content which attracts premium tech-related advertisements.
• Estimated Earnings: For 1,000 views, earnings could range from $4 to $10.

Example 3: Gaming Channel with Young Audience

Context: A gaming channel popular among teenagers and young adults, primarily featuring gameplay and commentary.

• CPM: Approximately $1 to $3. The lower CPM reflects the younger audience that typically has lower purchasing power and thus attracts lower-paying ads.
• Estimated Earnings: Earnings might be between $1 and $3 per 1,000 views.

Example 4: Educational Content in a Specific Niche

Context: A channel that produces high-quality educational videos on niche topics like advanced mathematics or science experiments.

• CPM: Approximately $5 to $15. Educational content can attract higher-paying ads, especially those related to educational products and services.
• Estimated Earnings: For 1,000 views, the channel could earn between $5 and $15.

Example 5: Non-Monetized or Limited Monetization Channels

Context: New creators or channels that do not meet YouTube’s monetization criteria (e.g., due to copyright claims or not meeting the YouTube Partner Program thresholds).

• CPM: $0 as these channels cannot run ads.

One of the most common barriers preventing people from starting a YouTube channel is the fear of appearing on camera.

And hey, if that’s you, I feel you… I was the same way for such a long time.

But the good news is that there’s no reason to let that stop you from starting a YouTube channel.

You see, whilst it’s ideal to try & get over the fear of appearing on camera, you can always make a faceless YouTube channel instead if you don’t think overcoming the fear anytime soon will be possible.

A faceless YouTube channel simply involves either using screencasting software & recording your screen whilst narrating or creating animations that people can watch instead of you being on camera.
