When it comes to blogging, people like to claim that blogging is dead & that it’s just a waste of time.

But should you listen to them?

Or can you still make a living blogging in 2024?

Well, the good news is that blogging isn’t dead. In fact, it’s actually more alive than ever before & you can certainly still make a living by blogging.

So, on this page, we’re going to set the record straight, explain why blogging isn’t dead & show you how people make money by writing blog posts.

Can You Make a Living Blogging?

Yes, absolutely. People have been making a living by blogging for many years & every day, there are new people leaving their jobs to blog full-time.

But blogging doesn’t have to “just” make you a living. It could become an extremely lucrative career.

In fact, blogging could actually make you a millionaire.

And believe it or not, it’s actually not all that difficult to start a profitable blog & find yourself earning tens of thousands every single month.

At Commission Academy, we’ve put together lots of guides on starting profitable blogs, such as:

Or even how to start a profitable blog in any niche you can think of.

Plus, we’ve also uncovered how long it takes to get to $500 per month by blogging.

But you might be wondering, then, if it’s so lucrative, why so many people claim that blogging is dead.

So let’s take a look at that next.

Is Blogging Dead? Why Do People Claim It Is?

First off, let us set the record straight. Despite what you might hear, blogging is certainly not dead. In fact, it’s actually more alive than ever.

Put it this way, if it was dead, I wouldn’t be wasting my time writing this blog.

So, if that’s the case, why do people claim that blogging is dead?

Well, here’s the deal. Whilst blogging can be very lucrative & potentially make you a millionaire, it’s not something that’ll see you starting to earn overnight.

As we talked about in another blog post, it could take you months to earn your very first earnings & up to 6 months to start earning $500 per month.

And guess what? A lot of people are pretty darn impatient.

So, rather than stick it out, you get a lot of people starting blogs & writing blog posts, only to give up a month or two later & claim that it’s dead because they haven’t made money.

But as you now know, that’s not the case.

Providing you stick with it & leverage keywords & keyword research, you could quite easily build a highly profitable blog that you can make a living from.

I should know. I’ve done it multiple times… And so has Simon, the other instructor here at Commission Academy. That’s why we put together our free course teaching people how to do it.

So if you haven’t done so already, be sure to sign up for our free training if you’re interested in getting started with setting up your very own money-making blog.

How Much Can You Make By Blogging?

Whilst the answer to this question varies depending on how much effort the blogger has put in, the average earnings of an established blogger are typically between $40,000 to $60,000 per year.

Some bloggers earn less, whilst some bloggers earn way more.

And as we mentioned in another post, blogging even has the potential to make you a millionaire.

But what’s even better is that typically, once you’ve built an income up from a blog, it will become mostly passive, meaning that there’s very little work required to maintain it.

So, for example, if you built a blog that was earning $50,000 per year, then generally, you’d be able to stop working (or work just a couple of hours per day) and maintain that same level of income for quite a long time.

And the reason for that is that once your blog posts are published, they’ll become ranked in search engines like Google & those search engines will send a flow of visitors through to your content.

So, for as long as your blog posts are still live (and relevant), you could still be getting visitors coming from search engines which means you could still continue making money.

And that happens a lot. There are many bloggers who generate passive income for years from their blogs.

This brings me to the next point.

How Do Bloggers Get Paid?

How bloggers get paid depends on how they earn their money & there are many different ways that bloggers can earn money from a blog.

The two main ones, however, are affiliate marketing & display advertising (both of which we teach in our free training course).

Before I explain how they get paid, let me give a brief overview of these two means of earning work:

Affiliate Marketing

This involves promoting products or services through affiliate programs in return for commissions that are paid out on successful sales.

The blogger chooses which affiliate programs he/she wants to join & is entirely in control of what products or services they want to promote.

Display Advertising

Display advertising essentially involves placing advertisements on your blog, but generally, bloggers will use ad networks that automatically serve up relevant ads next to their content.

Through display advertising, bloggers are generally paid per click or per view on the advertisements that are displayed on their blogs.

How Bloggers Get Paid

So, back to the main point. Bloggers can ultimately choose exactly how they wish to be paid (and also, usually, when they want to be paid).

For example, if a blogger wants to be paid via PayPal every week, they could simply find an affiliate program that pays via PayPal.

Similarly, if they wanted to be paid via bank transfer or cheque, they could simply search for affiliate programs or ad networks that paid via those methods.

So when it comes to getting paid as a blogger, it’s safe to say that it’s very flexible. Regardless of your location or payment methods, you’ll certainly be able to get paid for blogging.

The Bottom Line

There’s no doubt about it. You can still make a living blogging in 2024 & as highlighted, blogging could even make you a millionaire.

The folks that claim blogging is dead are simply folks who didn’t stick with it long enough for it to start working for them.

And if you’re curious as to how long it takes to start working, we uncovered how long it takes to make $500 per month with a blog right here.

But overall, we hope that this post has given you a good insight into the income potential that blogging can provide & if you have any further questions or comments, feel free to leave them below.

  1. This is the article I was looking for. Thank you very much for your cooperation. Can you tell me what software you use to run an incredibly fast website? Also, I’d like to create a simple website for my business, but I don’t have a domain and I need help with hosting. What would you suggest?
