If you’ve looked to start a blog or if you already have a blog and have been writing blog posts in the hope of getting traffic from search engines, you might have heard it’s best to blog daily.
But is blogging daily really a good strategy?
Does it really help your blog to rank higher in search engines?
Or is publishing one blog post a day just some outdated bad advice from the past?
If those are some of the things you’ve been wondering, you can rest assured that you’ve landed in the right place to find out the answers.
In this blog post, we’ll uncover if blogging daily affects SEO, if you should blog daily & what would happen if you only blogged once a month.
So let’s dive in & get to it.
Does Daily Blogging Affect SEO?
One of the primary reasons that folks suggest you blog daily is because, according to them, it will help your blog posts rank higher in search engines.
The claim is that search engines reward blogs that are most frequently updated.
So if you publish more content than your competitors, according to this theory, your blog posts should rank higher.
But in reality, that’s not the case.
The frequency of publishing (often known as content velocity in the world of SEO) isn’t a factor that determines how high your content will rank.
After all, why should it?
All search engines (like Google) want to do is provide the best, most relevant & most helpful content to the users that are searching.
So, let’s pretend you’ve created an amazing piece of content on how robot vacuums work.
Do you really think the search engine is going to hold that piece of content back from its users simply because you don’t publish 1 post per day?
Absolutely not.
If you publish great content, they’ll rank it – regardless of how frequently you blog.
The only SEO benefit you’d get from blogging daily would be that, because you have more content, you’d be targeting a larger set of keywords.
But that’s not specifically the fact you’re blogging daily that’s affecting your SEO. It’s just the fact that you have more content.
For example, let’s say you have 2 identical blogs & on the first one, you publish 1 post daily for 100 days, so you have 100 posts in total.
And on the second one, you publish 10 posts per month for 10 months.
Would the blog on which you blogged daily get more traffic simply because you were blogging daily?
Absolutely not.
If both sites had the same content, targeting the same keywords, both sites would get the exact same amount of traffic.
Publishing frequency is not a ranking factor, period.
As you can likely now see after thinking about it, it makes no sense at all for it to be. Why would a search engine be concerned about how often you blog?
It wouldn’t! All they’re concerned about is helpfulness & relevancy.
Should You Blog Daily?
If you can blog daily without compromising the quality of your content, then yes, by all means, you should blog daily.
After all, the more content you have, the more keywords you can target & the more traffic you will generate, which, in turn, will make you more money.
So blogging daily does make sense.
But as mentioned, that’s only if you can blog daily without compromising the quality of your content. You shouldn’t blog daily just for the sake of it.
If blogging daily will compromise the quality of your content, even just a little bit, then it should be avoided.
Your optimal publishing frequency should be the fastest you can publish the highest quality blog posts.
So if it takes you 3 days to publish a really high-quality blog post, then your optimal publishing frequency would be once every 3 days.
High-quality content every 3 days would be much more beneficial for SEO & your blog than lower-quality content being published every single day.
Is It OK To Blog Once A Month?
Yes, absolutely. Blogging once a month is fine.
There are many people who want to build an affiliate marketing business but simply don’t have the time to be blogging daily or even blogging weekly.
Is that a problem? Not at all.
Sure, blogging less frequently will result in it taking a little longer for you to start earning, but in the long run, it won’t have any detriment to your success.
So the answer is yes, it is absolutely OK to blog once a month & there many highly successful blogs that only publish 1 new post each month.
The Bottom Line
Blogging daily isn’t a strategy that helps you directly rank higher in search results because, as mentioned, publishing frequency doesn’t affect SEO.
However, if you can publish high-quality blog content every day, then you absolutely should do it because it’ll help you hit a wider reach of keywords much sooner.
So whilst it might not help you rank higher, it could help you reach a wider audience & therefore help you start earning money sooner than if you were to publish less frequently
But ultimately, your publishing frequency is entirely up to you.
After all, publishing once a week, once a month or even once a year is better than doing nothing at all.
