Use Multiple Affiliate Programs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/commission.academy\/blog\/can-you-lose-money-with-affiliate-marketing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">I lost $35,000<\/a> because the main affiliate program I was promoting got shut down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thankfully by that point, I had started promoting several different affiliate products so I had other income streams to fall back on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But I learned an important lesson:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don&#8217;t want more than 50% of your total income coming from a single affiliate program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;Don&#8217;t put all your eggs in one basket.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You want to start with a handful of <a href=\"https:\/\/commission.academy\/blog\/affiliate-programs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">affiliate programs<\/a> and add more gradually over time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It means you&#8217;ll be less reliant on one particular program but it also opens you up to higher earning potential and probably higher conversion rates as the products you recommend become more relevant to your audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Start With SEO<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/search\/docs\/fundamentals\/seo-starter-guide#:~:text=SEO%20%2D%20Search%20engine%20optimization%3A%20the,our%20presence%20on%20the%20web.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SEO<\/a> is when you simply attract free traffic to your website from search engines like Google.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And it&#8217;s the traffic generation we focus on in the <a href=\"https:\/\/commission.academy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Commission Academy training<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While we cover paid ads later in the more advanced training, we want our students to master the art of converting free traffic before splurging out on an expensive ads campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because paid ads are high-risk if you don&#8217;t know what you&#8217;re doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the beauty of using free and organic traffic first is you get to hone your skills and track what&#8217;s working and what&#8217;s not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then, when you&#8217;re finally ready to progress to paid ads, there&#8217;s less guesswork involved as you already have a decent idea of conversion rates and ROI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Understand Search Intent<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you can identify <a href=\"https:\/\/commission.academy\/blog\/search-intent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the 4 types of search intent<\/a> then you&#8217;ll be way ahead of the pack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seriously, this one took me years to get my head around &#8211; and it&#8217;s not complex really!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Search intent is just the reason behind someone googling something. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes they&#8217;re:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Looking for information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Looking for a specific website<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Looking to buy a product or service<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The last types of keywords are the ones we as affiliate marketers want to target if we want to <a href=\"https:\/\/commission.academy\/blog\/how-do-you-earn-commissions-online\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">generate commissions online<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If all your posts are informational then you might get a ton of website visits but little to no sales. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If that&#8217;s the case you might need to mix it up a bit and add more transactional or commercial intent keywords to your content strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Understanding Search Intent: What Every Affiliate Marketer Needs To Know\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kIY0fQ7-q-U?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Get Obsessed About Helping<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This tip is probably the biggest in terms of mindset and it really will catapult you to the top 10% of successful affiliates if you get this right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here it is in a nutshell:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The more helpful you are as an affiliate, the more dollars you will make.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Really.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Put people before profits every time and the traffic, clicks, sales and commissions will absolutely follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I promise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ask yourself:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Who is your target audience?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What do they want or need?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What can you do to help them get to where they want to be?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then set out from the start to become the most helpful affiliate marketer on the planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Make every blog post the most useful and practical blog post ever created.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Offer up the best possible solutions to people&#8217;s problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Give them the best answers to their questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s not only the right thing to do, but it&#8217;s also smart. You&#8217;ll become the go-to in your industry and people will be far more willing to click your affiliate links and buy because they trust you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">8. Stick To Products You Know<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the great things about affiliate marketing is <a href=\"https:\/\/commission.academy\/blog\/how-many-products-can-you-promote-as-an-affiliate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">you can promote as many products as you want<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But since you&#8217;re here asking my advice, let me say this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stick to promoting products you use and love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I get it. It&#8217;s not always possible to buy every product before <a href=\"https:\/\/commission.academy\/blog\/how-to-write-a-product-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">writing a product review<\/a>, but if you can, you will make more sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reason for this is you&#8217;ll have more to say. Instead of going off what the Amazon reviews say, you&#8217;ll be able to more easily identify the real-life solutions the product offers and tell people what you like about the product in your own words. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can take photos or videos of yourself with the product which will give you more credibility and add more weight to your recommendations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">9. Protect Your Reputation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ve already hinted at this a couple of times but now let me address honesty directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your reputation online is paramount. It&#8217;s all you&#8217;ve got.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tell people what they want to hear to try and maximise your commissions and they&#8217;ll smell it a mile off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sleazy sales tactics like these <a href=\"https:\/\/commission.academy\/blog\/why-affiliate-marketing-has-a-bad-reputation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">give affiliate marketers a bad name<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Promote a crappy product or make misleading claims and you could tarnish your online reputation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And once you break that trust, it&#8217;s almost always irreversible. People won&#8217;t listen to you, won&#8217;t buy from you but worse than that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Angry customers who feel like they&#8217;ve been duped will get all evangelical on your ass and start spreading the word about just how untrustworthy you are. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@Coffeezilla\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Coffeezilla<\/a> is a prime example of this. He&#8217;s outing the internet scammers every week and you don&#8217;t want to get on his radar!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So make the decision right from the outset that you&#8217;ll always be upfront about your affiliate associations, you&#8217;re going to recommend products you wholeheartedly believe in and you&#8217;re going to run your business with integrity because you&#8217;re in this for the long term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">10.
